Whose 'Supernatural' Is From a Higher Realm? Ciara's or Mary's?
Back in June, a leak of Ciara's song "Supernatural" was made available on the web. The track was produced by Ne-Yo and will appear on her September release Fantasy Ride. Which is cool. I mean, it wasn't something SB would normally think twice about. Usually, a cursory congrats to CiCi would suffice. Well, now that the same track, this time covered by Mary J. Blige, has surfaced, it becomes somewhat of a story. Or at least interesting. Now, we know MJB is down with the Ne-Yo camp, so perhaps she was just having fun with a track that eventually went to Ciara. But as we First Spin Mary's version, we've decided to post both tracks and make it a "Supernatural" Battle of the Beats. Take a listen below and weigh in.

Mary even bit CiCi's lyrics that sucks, i thought Mary was better than that, i just lost faith in her, her last album was not good as well!!!!
Intoisr | August 31, 2008 4:32 PM | PermalinkI'm a HUGE MJB fan which is why I feel crazy saying I'm feeling CiCi's version better. Her voice has a soft sensuality that MJB never displayed. Honestly, the track didn't have enough raw soul to keep up with Mary's voice.
mista_duval | August 7, 2008 12:48 PM | PermalinkI love both Mary and Ciara, but I have to say that I prefer CiCi's version. The song is meant to be light and airy, lovey dovey kinda stuff, and that's more up Ciara's alley. I still like the way Mary delivered it though.
Speaking of Mary... what the hell happened to her album Growing Pains? She released two singles and now it seems plans for promoting the album have been left. I don't understand, because I thought it was a very good album and had a lot of potential singles left.
@ Suga: Really? I really dig the Mary album. Love the soulful vibes... it was a nice change.

That could have a lot to do with why I'm not feeling her version, since I havent been in love with an album from Mary since "Share My World"...wasnt "Mary" the one that came out right after that? Wasn't feelin it. *shrug*

ytac | August 4, 2008 3:12 PM | Permalinkalright... i don't like either. mary's voice needs a production that has a little more depth to it. ciara's, on the other hand, doesn't have enough depth for the production. and as much as i like ne-yo, this isn't a stellar track anyway. what else y'all got??

Obviously as someone MOST interested in 'Grown-folks' music I jumped to listen to the MJB. I like both now that I've heard them. Honestly though, I wish someone more like Faith Evans had done this track. She can do the lite & airy voice like Ciara and switch-up to the beast like MJB. That would've been perfection I.M.O. of course...
