Jay-Z On Saadiq's 'Oh Girl' Makes Us Say 'Oh Boy'
When I first heard that Jay-Z was going to appear on a remix to Raphael Saadiq's utterly blissful song "Oh Girl," I was cautiously optimistic knowing that Jigga is no stranger to sampling classic records and this song is just that. But now that the song is here, I can't say that
my anticipation paid off. Jay raps about cupid hitting him dead in his heart and makes clear references to his marriage to the hottest chick in the game, but overall his bars are blah. I'm sure this was a good idea on paper, but the final execution falls flat. The "Oh Girl" remix appears as a bonus cut on The Way I See It, but after hearing the album -- which is one of the best releases this year -- this could have easily been left off or re-imagined in a much better way.

ort | September 23, 2008 8:29 PM | PermalinkUh...why does this uh....'remix' exist? I don't believe that The Tempts or Otis had any rappers on their records in the 60's. Plus, let's be honest; although we live in a universe where units solds means 'valid', (see 'pet rocks' and 'mood rings) why does Shawn (or anyone, for that matter) have to rhyme on everything? Do we live ina reality where T.I. is gonna do a hot 16 on the next run of 'Carmen' on B'way? I mean DAMN.
Songboy3 | September 15, 2008 12:54 PM | PermalinkNot needed.
Although for some strange reason, when he said he tried to run and Cupid shot him in the heart, it made me smile. The delivery sounds extra lazy though.
We didn't need to hear that on this song. Doesn't fit.

Oh Girl?
Nonplussed | September 11, 2008 5:41 AM | PermalinkOh dear.
EVERY song DOES NOT need a REMIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn! This being a classic example. This is a travesty of the worst kind, sorta like Terrence Howard trying to cover a Al Green song:) or fat people wearing spandex shorts....................
stoneyisland | September 11, 2008 12:40 AM | PermalinkI've been a big Jay-Z fan for quite some time, but everything he's done lately is quite blah..Normally I get excited when he does a feature rhyme, but my immediate thought before I even listened to this song with Raphael was "Why?" I'm really diggin this song, and can't wait for the album, but this was one collabo that should not have been done..omg do you hear the way j comes onto the record?? it's sooo out of place, i almost shut it off!! and as others said, the bars add absolutely nada,in fact they take away from a quality record!!
miss concrete jungle | September 10, 2008 8:26 PM | PermalinkIm sorry, when Jigga came on I had to turn it off.Left uninspired really.Really it isn't a remix.I don't know why people call it a "remix" when it sounds just the same.
Sharonda | September 10, 2008 6:54 PM | PermalinkI gave it a listen.. and I too was seriously underwhelmed.. His verses didn't add anything to the song. The remix needs to be remixed.
JujuBee | September 10, 2008 5:36 PM | PermalinkThanks for the heads up, Sho! It's been fixed.
Butta | September 10, 2008 4:20 PM | Permalinkthe wrong link. it plays the robin thicke song.
Sho | September 10, 2008 4:14 PM | PermalinkFirst the video, now this. I'm starting to question whether Saadiq loves this song as much as we do. lol
Still love the album, though. At least there's that.
