Musiq Redeems Himself With 'SoBeautiful'

musiq_soulchild_radio.jpgMusiq Soulchild fans can breathe a sigh of relief. After being subjected to that wretched song as the first single from his next album, I am here to tell you the man hasn't sold out! Whereas I don't know about every track that will appear on OnMyRadio, I can say that he returns to his tried and true formula of crafting soulful music with substance on at least one other song from the album. Yes!

I saw Mr. Soulchild in concert a couple weeks ago and as he sang his way through his deep catalog of crowd-pleasing favorites, he introduced us to a new song entitled "SoBeautiful." My side-eye started watering as a rush of questions came to my brain: Was he gonna sing about rims and rotund booties? Was Lil Wayne gonna jump out like a goblin from the backstage shadows to rap? Would there be auto-tune involved? However, by the time the first note played, my fears were allayed. "SoBeautiful" was a lovely song about commitment that fit nicely into the show. Now this was the Musiq that I came to know and love. Hearing this song made me forgive him for pandering to the mainstream, and now I'm actually looking forward to getting my hands on OnMyRadio this November. Albeit with my finger on the FF button when that song comes on.

Check Musiq performing "SoBeautiful" at a recent concert and my guerrilla footage from his DC show after the bounce.

Im tired of everyone judgin him. So he stepped outside of the box..thats what real artist do. And by him makin a club banger..that brings more artist..hints more money!! This man knows what he's doing!!
I love everything about musiq, but if one song prevents you from buying his entire album(DLS77)...then obviously...you are not a true fan!!

First of all I'm a die hard/cut throat/ride or die fan of Musiq Soulchild and I'm really getting tired of people bashing him because he wanted to flip the script musically and try something different....it's a damn shame that as an artist you can't evolve and test the waters with other styles of music! "Radio" is paying homage to his new residence of ATL. WTF is he supposed to keep doing the same sh*t over and over and never grow...????Yeah granted he is a "Soulful" artist but there is much more to him than what you "haters" are used to. If people really are his true fans when he grows & evolve as an artist so should his fans. I don't give a F*ck what no one has to say about "Radio" because the song is hot.....and like he said "Don't Front You Know Yo Love It....Put It On The Radio" Onmyradio is not going to consist of songs like "Radio" Lastly to the writer of this blog you need to stick with what you do best & give out free packs of socks on "Hood Fab"

People are so quick to judge...especially black people. Musiq isn't trying to alienate his old fans but as an artist he more than likely wants to try new things, grow and take risks...there's nothing wrong with that. A lot of the so called good soul music is the same ole' mundane material we've already heard. Musiq's song Radio is not neccessarily meant for listeners' who are stuck in the year 2000. It's a new day and we may not ever get another "Aijuswanaseing ". Just like we'll never get another "Illmatic" from Nasty Nas! Peace and blessings to all...

damn how do i miss shows in my own damn region!? crucial footage.

thanx for the vids! excellent performances as usual.

i'm a HUGE musiq supporter, and excuse my loyalty, but i'm kinda disappointed that people actually were afraid that his WHOLE album would be like "radio". of course not--musiq is a smart artist. radio may be a mainstream song, but it's also a smart song that's gonna bring some new listeners into his audience--which everyone knows he's always deserved more shine.

it was also smart to begin leaking out the "sobeautiful" song so that his core fanbase wouldn't think he was going insane. i never did...i trust him to bring it in nov!! :)

Okay, so if most of his album is like SoBeautiful, then he can get a free pass with Radio. Radio may just be him playing around...his jump into the ATL scene since he's down there now. It's not too bad, it's just not him. If he more songs like it on the new album and less of his good stuff, then I'll pass on the entire album....

Okay...I'm have to hear about two more singles before I dive right in. He threw me off with that God awful "Radio" track. I might have to eat my negative words and like you fast forward past that joint.

I guess I'll have to listen to Musiq's new album when it drops, because that first single was ill advised. And what's up with him lookin' like Cole from Martin with a faux hawk?
