Sh*t or Shinola?
Does Usher's 'Ladies-Only' Tour Make You Wanna...
Cringe? Scream? Run out and buy tickets? Leave the one you're with and start a new relationship with...? (Sorry, couldn't help it.) But seriously, when news that Usher will be hitting the road for an intimate, 15-city sweep called the Ladies-Only One Night Stand Tour hit the net earlier this week, I chuckled. Not because I don't think it will work, because really, who Butta:
It's a pity that Usher is embarking on a concert tour that his own wife can't attend. That is just wrong!
But in all honesty, Usher isn't even sexy enough to even consider a Ladies Only tour. Maxwell can do this. D'Angelo can do this. Even Raphael Saadiq can do this after seeing his command of the audience at a recent concert and how he made the females in attendance gasp and swoon by his sheer musical talent alone. But Usher? Nope. No way. No thank you.
ill Mami:
I wholeheartedly agree with Butta. I'm not tapped into the stanbase that Usher has, but his insistence that he is a family man means that he lost a lot of fans who would want to fantasize about him...without Tameka wanting to bite their heads off. Unfortunately, he can't have it both ways. And has Ursher come out with any new material that warrants going out on tour? Case in point: Maxwell can go out on tour as a way of apologizing for his new album taking so long. Because he's single. That we know of. Usher...not so much. Plus, Maxwell is fione. LOL

I think these girls are crazy... Why would you want to fantasize about a cheater. All women want a man to love them, put the first, and treat them like a superstar. Keep doing you thing Usher, you are truly one of the sexiest men in America

hazeey brown | October 14, 2008 8:57 PM | PermalinkBaby Usher will be Usher no matter what! Yes his album didn't do so great but yeah we have alot of haters out there. We down a brother when they don't take care of their responsibilties and they're out there sleeping with every woman in site and now we are downing a good brother for stepping up and becoming a real man. What are we doing ladies. We loved him when he was CONFESSING all his sins and hating him for HERE I STAND. I still love you USHER and always will. HERE I STAND with U now no matter what. That man has to have a life, too. Money isn't everything and he has that anyway.

KEISHA | September 10, 2008 4:15 AM | Permalink" HERE I STAND " CD IS NOT REALLY WRITTEN FOR AN ALL LADIES NIGHT OUT, I MEAN ITS REALLY A GOOD CD, BUT I DONT KNOW IF AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK IF ME AND MY GIRLFRIENDS WANT TO GET ALL DOLLED UP TO LISTEN TO" MAKE LOVE IN THE CLUB", BUT I MUST SAY THAT IF THE TOURS DOES COME HERE I WOULD PROBALY GO, BECAUSE LETS FACE IT LADIES USHER IS STILL VERY HOT , HE HAS THAT GROWN AND SEXY LOOK NOW, SO I WOULD PROBALY NOT CARE ABOUT THE SONGS BUT JUST FOCUS ON HIM AND THOSE SEXY DANCERS OF HIS.
I don't know...I'm convicted that even if Maxwell is married,he can go on tour anytime and sellout such as he has with Radio City Music Hall(I got 7th row!!!).I'm glad that Usher has grown up and is wanting to do his family thing, but I'm not sure this ladies only thing is going to work.Maybe I'll be surprised.
joy | September 6, 2008 6:30 PM | PermalinkWOW the comments are crazy. Where would music be if when an artist put out an album that the whole didn't dig, didn't recieve awards and other accolades, or got married, they would give up as some have suggested. Thank goodness for this thing called perserverance or a variety of good music really would be dead.
TiP | September 5, 2008 11:15 AM | PermalinkTyler I disagree! Here I stand was trash not even worth a 2nd total spin. His music has bombed and he needs to sit down.
rasta | September 4, 2008 6:10 PM | PermalinkI am only going if Brandy is an opening act. I guess she can't co-headline since it is billed as a "Ladies Night" tour.
Divo | September 4, 2008 5:55 PM | Permalinkusher is wack and needs to talk to his financial advisor cause his musical career is over.
blkbandit | September 4, 2008 5:03 PM | PermalinkUgh. I am not a fan of the Ursh. Anyway MAXWELL tickets are on sale for HIS TOUR and that is where you will see me! I got mine this morning!!!!
sfsinger | September 4, 2008 3:43 PM | PermalinkI find it disheartening that this man's career has to suffer because ht got married and SPOKE about it. There are plenty of R&B sangers who are married, who keep it moving without letting the world know, who dont get ripped to shreds.
If I was 16, I'm sure I'd be excited as hell about this women's only tour. I remember being in the 11th grade and doing all that i could to win tickets to a woman's only usher cruise lol
To be honest, his latest album was not all that to me, but if it had been similar to Confessions, or even 8701, im sure women would be lined up around the corner, waiting for the tix to go on sale, whether he had a wife or not. I think the main problem is his music, not his personal life.
suga | September 4, 2008 3:09 PM | PermalinkI don't get what the big deal is that he's married I like him married or not. Never purchased an album so I'm not a stan, but I don' think we should underestimate him as a performer. He may not have the vocal talent of a Maxwell, but his presence on stage is incredible(without the lip synching that is). Me and my mother watched him on TV performing a Luther Vandross song in a tribute to him and he had my mother screaming and yelling. I was surprised because she is a Luther STAN and usually does not like when other artist perform his songs but Usher's perfomance was that good. I've never seen him live, I might just have to go this time around.
TiP | September 4, 2008 2:34 PM | PermalinkThere have been a few Usher songs that I've liked...maybe 5 or so...they may get some rotation with me, but never an entire album's worth. He's corny and conceited which is an awful combination. I do think he is a talented dancer and perfomrer all around, although Ne-yo has been stealing his thunder lately since they have the same type of fan base. I have not and don't ever think I would need to see him on tour. I wish him luck though...but it does seem quite contradictory to his "I'm a married man doing what a man with a child should do" stance he's taken as of late to be doing a women's only tour....but he's trying to reclaim his niche I suppose......
DLS77 | September 4, 2008 2:02 PM | PermalinkUsher may have been able to pull this off when he dropped has last album Confessions...but since he married and alienated a lot of his female fanbase, not now. Go sit down, Usher!
Doganr | September 4, 2008 1:41 PM | PermalinkWhat amuses and frustrates me about all of this chatter is that one's support of a Usher hinges on whether or not you like his wife. Yet you gave him this commercial breakthrough for an album all about how he was a dog and a cheater.
This kind of shit is ridiculous and silly. Usher's a terrific singer and an intimate setting for an artist like him to re-imagine his songs is a creative gamble that is worth supporting.
By most objective standards, Here I Stand is a terrific album. That it didn't sell well says much more about the audience than the music.
