An Example of How To Use Auto-Tune Correctly
The Hip Hop blog community is besieged daily with unofficial remixes, 99% of them being completely unlistenable and irrelevant. A couple of weeks back, I spotted a "Love Lockdown" remix featuring R. Kelly on vocals that I quickly deleted lest his errant ways rub off on me through my computer screen. After seeing ?uestlove give the ultimate co-sign, however, I decided to take a listen. And you know what? Despite Kels having his sexual deviance documented on video and Kanye West being the enfant terrible of not just Hip Hop but all music in general, I have to give them their props. The beat was always a heart-thumping slow grind and Auto-Tune really does seem to sound best when someone who can truly sing, in this case R. Kelly, sings the vocals. Color me surprised.

lol@ example of how to use auto tune. It could be that Robert just happens to know how to sing, unlike TPain, Kanye, and Wayne. I think that's about it.

saradoubleu | November 18, 2008 10:24 PM | PermalinkIt's been a looong time since an R Kelly appearance actually helped a song in a remix. Examples of horribleness: Raheem's Customer Remix and Ciara's Promise remix. This is one of those cases where I didn't care for the original and R Kelly didn't do much to improve my opinion on the remix. I really love the music sans Kanye or Kelly, so I'll hold out for an instrumental version of this song.
eby | November 18, 2008 12:41 PM | PermalinkI cannot and will not.
First Kanye and technology obviously don't click, but I DO like the beat.
Second, R Kelly knows there is a special place in hell for his ass and I will not have any part in visiting him there.
Third, to cheer myself up when I am having a rough day, I sing the first line of this track to Cartman's voice from South Park. :)
And that's how much love I have for this song.
Tha Connoisseur | November 18, 2008 12:43 AM | Permalinki still can't get with it.
khalid | November 17, 2008 7:11 PM | PermalinkA good thing just gets better when Chitown puts it down. =)
Paco | November 17, 2008 3:45 PM | PermalinkLet me just clarify this for everyone:
R Kelly is a heinous man and his actions are despicable. I do not like what he has come to represent as a human being. But there do exist instances where, as a lover of all music, things will present themselves that are worthy to listen to.
I do not intend to bump this in my ride or play it around children. But, as a former R Kelly fan, I am simply giving him credit on his musical ability.
Nothing more, nothing less.
ill Mami | November 17, 2008 3:37 PM | Permalinkyour review has me curious but i have not and i will continue not to support anything that r. kelly does.
asha fka thatchick | November 17, 2008 3:30 PM | PermalinkDamn... 0.48 seconds in before he said "club". Now thats a record !. This sounds pretty good.
Mutada al sader the king | November 17, 2008 3:29 PM | PermalinkOh yeah Kanye's album will be flop, I dont know too many real hip hop fans who are standing outside of Sam Goody's to cop this auto-tune travesty. I think Kanye is slipping he use to be a leader but now it seems as if he wants to be T-Pain and Andre3000 all rolled up into one, only problem is Andre3000 is funky and is one of the top 3 MC's alive. 808 huh? he will be lucky to sell that many copies of this shit sandwich of an album.
stoneyisland | November 17, 2008 3:14 PM | Permalinkwow. I don't completely hate it...
Bree | November 17, 2008 3:11 PM | PermalinkAnything and I mean ANYTHING with that child molesting bastard R.Kelly get's no air play in my car, my crib, my job basically no where. I have either sold or gave away my old R.Kelly collection. As Funkmaster Flex said Kells no longer gets a pass for his previous behavior, I know some of you saw his interview where he was asked if he like young girls and he said and I quote "what do you consider young"......
stoneyisland | November 17, 2008 3:08 PM | PermalinkThis mos def sounds better than the original mix and the Lil Wayne remix put together. Props.
