Get Into The Noisettes & Their 'Wild Young Hearts'

I will admit that Afro-Punk is a genre of music I have overwhelmingly slept on. It has all the elements of music that a grrrl like myself would enjoy (Rock, Black folks who can sing, interesting outfits, and wanting to stick it to the Man). Yet I invariably find myself at a loss for naming any worthwhile bands besides Bad Brains, Fishbone, and Saul Williams on his Niggy Tardust album. Enter The Noisettes. Not only is the lead singer and bassist Shingai Shoniwa stunningly fierce, but she prowls the stage with a combination of Joan Jett's and Eartha Kitt's attitude. Add to that a voice that's melodically sound and vaguely reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux and you get quite a nice twist for all of those Denise Huxtable girls who just want to rock out sometimes. Their lead single "Wild Young Hearts" from their second album of the same name is below. Just be sure to give us some props when you want to drop their name to your friends to prove how avant garde you are.

cool. i'll definitely check them out. but i usually prefer something heavier (= less pop, for me anyway) and darker. after i heard tamar-kali at a local brooklyn rock venue, i was hooked. last may, tamar-kali, along with funkstress joi and blaKbushe, perfomed a labelle tribute. i've also seen her perform showcases with malene younglao, anoher hot rock chick. check tamar-kali out at her website, www.flamingyoni.com or at www.myspace.com/tamarkali

ive just dived headfirst into love with this song. thank you soulbounce thank you =)

loving this...

wow. i'd been hearing about Noisettes for a while now, but i couldn't pick them out of a lineup or identify their music if i heard it. leave it to Soul Bounce to make me pay attention. i really like this--fresh for 2009!
