It doesn't take a genius to know that when it comes to Beyoncé Knowles, other sites got the girl covered many times over. But there are times when something so irresistible crosses our desk that we have to take a step back and toss internal policy to the side. Such is the case with Siik's remix of "Single Ladies" a clever mash-up that employs the instrumental from Talib Kweli's "Never Been In Love." The concept alone is so unlikely that the execution has to be genius, and that it is. By ditching the misguided bridge and re-aligning the vocals in certain areas, Siik has re-envisioned the track as something decidedly more R&B with enough nod-factor to satisfy the Hip Hop heads. Score! [Siik via MM]

Can you imagine if this was the original beat and she danced to it the way she did in the video? Soul heads everywhere would love her for this! The fact that we know it's a Talib mash doesn't make most respect it as much. I personally think it's hot.
this remix goes hard. I'm in love with it. I'm a fan of the original song, too. this version just seems so sunny, breezy...it gives it a totally different vibe. THIS is what a mashup should be.
Hmmm, interesting. But it doesn't work for me. And I think actually this remix shows just how arch and oversung her uptempo vocal performances are. She needs to slow the hell down and SING.
Kinda goes, but then it kinda doesn't. I don't think I could listen to it after this test run. Siik remix for Janet's 'If' over Snoop's 'Let's get Blown' really hit's the spot!
i think it's nice. sometimes, it's good to hear a more subdued track underneath Beyonce's often fiery vocals. a lot of her more uptempo stuff is so stylized, so ON, that it can be a bit much (especially for us brothers who aren't necessarily trying to mimic the video's amazing choreography--not that there's anything wrong with that!). i think the "Never Been in Love" beat brings out the quality in the vocals, especially during the chorus. "Single Ladies" is suddenly something i don't mind listening to. this is fresh.
The best remix I've heard thus far is Steve "Silk" Hurley's old school/new school remix, where he mixes Single Ladies with Chubb Rock's Treat 'Em Right.
Leave it to Beyonce to mess up a classic joint:-) I dont think I can enjoy Talibs version after this. Siik should be locked the hell up and sent to guanatanamo:-)

not feeling it as much as the original.with the grooved out backing it lost the best part of the song. the urgency/the intensity of the original is what ties it all together. i have heard several siik remixes that i love to death but this one didn't do it for me. siik remixed amerie's 1 thing and it was amazing.

mr. archie | January 13, 2009 4:51 PM | PermalinkThis is okay. Genuis? Uh-no. I'm not a Beyonce fan. I think she can sing, but her vocals are so grating.

I'm actually pretty fond of this. I don't think it's as deep as some folks are making it out to be. It's just a remix, not the cure for cancer.
