The SoulBounce Guide to Soulful (and Affordable) Inauguration Events

Mr. PresidentThe day that everyone has been waiting for is fast approaching: January 20, 2009. That is the day that President-elect Barack Obama will be inaugurated as President of the United States of America. Ever since his being elected on November 4th of last year, people have been clamoring to get to Washington, DC to witness this historic event. Trips got scheduled, rooms got booked, and millions of people on top of the millions who live in the area plan to converge on the DMV to get in on a piece of the action. And there'll be lots of it to be had with Inauguration Day following on the heels of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend.

Everybody and their grandmother is having an inaugural ball (although there are only 10 official balls) and using it as an excuse to charge $100 and up per ticket. But you know we don't play that here at SoulBounce. Unlike some people (I won't name no names, Maxwell), we realize that we're in a recession and that this is not the time to spend money all willy nilly. That's not what President Barack Obama is about and neither are we. With that in mind, I've compiled this list of wallet-friendly, SoulBounce-approved events from January14th-20th for your consideration for those who want to Barack their bodies on a budget. This is nowhere near a comprehensive list of every single party that Diddy or Taraji P. Henson are "scheduled" to appear at, but instead it's a listing of soulful events where you might find one or more of your friendly SoulBounce Editors since all this excitement is happening in our backyard and what not. If you see any of us out and about, we'll have to have a drink. As long as you're buying.

I'm tempted to go see Rich Medina....

Thanks soooo much for posting this. I have seen very few events for less than $75. LOL

BRAVO!!!

I'm glad there's so much going on that's positive, because the Forces of Coonery are also gathering strength with a determination that hasn't been seen in this town since NBA All-Star weekend 2001.

In the rush of excitement, I'm ashamed that I totally lost sight of what's really important:

I think MLK day might find me cleaning up Marvin Gaye Park:

Oh man D.C is going to jam packed that weekend. The anthropophobia is telling me avoid the crowds but man I am seriously considering the Ian Friday, Bugz in the Attic and the Black Cat joints.

>_> What to do....

LOL Still goin off on those Maxwell tickets. The list looks promising. I believe on okayplayer, there was something about D'Angelo being at one of the events on Jan 15...anyone heard of this?

aww. you still clownin' the maxwell ticket prices. thanks for these events, know of any similar affairs goin' down on the 20th in nyc? tx

Y'all really are trying to break my back with all these events. And I'll second Viv and say that looking at this list no where near compares to the debauchery that occurred pre- and post-New Years.

GObama!

Nice roundup.

I was just about to ask Deborah what was going on Wednesday but knew I'd find out here.

And I'm just wondering if we can get a reprise of U Got The Look at that Bmore Erro/Deborah Bond show. I'm just sayin.

I'm looking at this list and getting tired ALREADY. Good stuff!
