Artists Pay Homage To J Dilla By Reinterpreting Their Favorites
J Dilla's passing has inspired many events and awareness about Lupus, the disease that claimed his life. Three years later, we find more and more artists putting their own twist on Dilla's ethereal beats which means we get to reap the benefits. Below you will find two offerings that reinterpret Jay Dee. From their A Suite For Ma Dukes, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño have remade Slum Village's "Fall In Love," using orchestral stylings to turn a tale into not overextending yourself for unrequited love into a sweeping and subtle track heavy on harp strings. Next up is Zo! whose reinterpretation of an early Dilla beat can be found on his "4 Dilla." While for most of us the Dilla festivities may be over, make sure you check out A Suite For Ma Dukes, a 4-track EP, available on iTunes now with proceeds from the album going to J Dilla's mother. And if you're in LA on February 22nd, you may just see a certain Soulbounce editor at Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño's performance of their Suite with a full orchestra. Can. Not. Wait. In the meantime, enjoy these tunes below. [OKP/PIMB]
