Since Clive Davis recently stepped out from behind-the-scenes of the Grammy Awards this year, things are likely going to go differently. This year's nominations already caused speculation about just how influential Davis really was in nominee and award winner selection. Considering the trajectories of artists like Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston, it's hard to imagine their rise to fame not being slower without strong showings at the Grammy Awards early in their career development. Nevertheless, even his famed pre-Grammy gala that acted as a showcase for artists may not last much longer, even after it was recently appropriated by The Recording Academy. Without the iconic gravitas of Davis and his legendary sixth sense when it comes to discovering and developing talent, it will be interesting to see which direction the Grammy Awards go. Will they emancipate completely and open the awards up to a more diverse artist pool? Or, will they try to mimic the Davis-era?
