DJ Jazzy Jeff Adds A Touch of Soul To Hip Hop Classics

It goes without saying that Jeffrey Townes, while inspiring deejays since his tenure as one half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, is one of the most accomplished and perhaps underrated producers of our time. He recently dropped My Faves Vol 1 via his official site, and has managed to make oft-reiterated and remixed classics by The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and Nas among others sound fresh again. The tracks selected are already our faves as well, but what Jeff manages to do is offer musical backdrops that are dripping in Soul and Funk without sacrificing each song's original spirit. Wu-Tang's "C.R.E.A.M.," for example, is reborn as "Loot" by way of Curtis Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love." Press "play" for a listen and don't forget to download your copy at

You said it, one of the most underrated producers in the game. Jeff doing Philly proud again. Makes me want to jump in the rod, lean to the side and just drive....

Agreed, he's one of the best in the game. That Jay-Z mix is pure gold.

Jazzy Jeff did some cool stuff on this. I love the way he spun the samples on "Dirty Shoulders", "Da Orchestra"(especially at its end"), "Passing by Me"(really murdered it), "Made You Peek"(loved that sample since Federline's "America's Most Hated"), and "Hustle Knockin". I am DEFINITELY I dl'ed this!!! He could teach a few DJs how to use soul samples!!!
