Feel the 'Heartbeat' of Neon Collars
About thirty seconds into this track when a pulsing synthesized tone begins swell over the soft, reversed chants of Neon Collars lead vocalist Franchelle Lucas, "Heartbeat" becomes totally magnetic. In fact, it's difficult not to be drawn in completely. Somehow its minmalism, both lyrically and musically, are fully engaging without feeling all that predictable. It's no wonder that Houston-based Neon Collars --rounded out by Denis "The Menace" Cisneros, Carlos Conway, Ike Ojore, and Justin "8 Months" Lewis, respectively-- have caught the attention of Erykah Badu and have recently performed as her opening act. This song from their EP Chasing Strange is enticingly progressive and fresh, and is definitely worth multiple listens. [H/T: RIK/FWMJ]
