A Soulful Noise
Erykah Badu Opens Up About Her Loves On Twitter
Twitter, the current online fad sweeping the internet, provides anyone the opportunity to microblog about anything their heart may desire. In Erykah Badu's case, this recently amounted to her opening up, albeit to a worldwide audience, about her love of the single life and her children's fathers and her feelings about past love Common. While she cautioned that her tweets were in no way related, she has been pondering writing a book about her past romances and that she would like to write Common a letter since she felt awkward during their last meeting and performance at the SXSW festival. I'm sure that the gossip blogs and magazines will try to read all kinds of things into this tidbit of information. In the meantime, it's refreshing to see someone who isn't afraid to let her genuine feelings be known to the public. For those of you who just want the dirt, her tweets are after the bounce. "Erykah is on another level of living than most of us "sheeple" (and that's self included)."
Life Lesson #348975923: ALWAYS do speak only for yourself.
kenyata | April 11, 2009 9:20 PM | PermalinkChrista Mi Marie: Erykah is on another level of living than most of us "sheeple" (and that's self included). What would the difference be if there was a marriage with one child and bickering and fighting between husband and wife every night. That would be fine because she would be married I guess. But I'm not perfect so I can't judge so I'll just shut my mouth.
Jennifer | April 3, 2009 10:02 PM | Permalink@stoneyisland I totally agree. Don't get me wrong I love some Erykah Badu but does anyone else see it like I do ? She has 3 children by 3 different men & it doesn't seems to bother her one bit. Interesting.
Christa Mi Marie | April 3, 2009 6:36 PM | PermalinkI just read somewhere online that she tweeted that her and that Jay guy are no longer dating. I dont like passing judgement on anyone. (okay im lying) but I kinda feel what Stoneyisland was saying, and Im a single mom as well...
ThatchickNik | April 3, 2009 2:17 PM | PermalinkStoney, I get outa jail when you bail me out sweetness:)

miss concrete jungle | April 2, 2009 2:02 PM | Permalink@miss concrete jungle: point taken. you probably shouldn't be tweeting content, protected entries or not, if you don't want it to be made public. as was demonstrated, you don't know what peeps can do with your words. after looking over her twitter stream, you're right, she does know she's being watched and anticipated a leak. it just all makes me wonder about the social manners and standards of twitter. (and also whether twitter is being used like 140 character therapy for some). thanks for your respectful disagreement. ciao.
Sinati | April 2, 2009 12:02 PM | PermalinkThis is why I love this chic. Hi Stoney!!! You show up to EVERY Badu post and I love it!!!!
I wish she'd set a date for Part 2...sigh.
Jennifer | April 2, 2009 10:12 AM | Permalink@sinati I see what you're saying. But IMHO, yeah her tweets might be "locked", but look at the era we live in, when you put it online it's honestly for the world to see and there is no true privacy. Plus this is Erykah, who could probably give a flyin hoot about what we think anyway, I'm sure she knew it might leak--especially throwing a Common tweet in there. Whether I agree or not, I can appreciate her being down to earth. Note to self: Request to follow Erykah on Twitter.
miss concrete jungle | April 2, 2009 9:49 AM | PermalinkA few questions:
Since her twitter stream is protected, (you have to request to follow her) do you think it was appropriate to reprint them (lock icon intact) on a blog?
Would you reprint the tweets of your friends if their twitter stream was protected? Are these twits for loyal fans/friends only?
While she is a public figure of sorts, I think the article didn't have to actually reprint her protected twitter stream, even if she does have thousands of followers. The info before the jump was enough.
sinati | April 2, 2009 12:00 AM | PermalinkThey were actually together at the jazz fest in Miami this past weekend. I heard both had great sets. I just can't get with the twitter thang.
blknite | April 1, 2009 3:16 PM | PermalinkMore power to her. What a wonderful world it would be if we all could be this honest with ourselves and each other...
cjayconrod | April 1, 2009 2:29 PM | PermalinkI dont if we should celebrate this broad or throw stones at her...I mean she seems happy in her own skin, so God bless her, HOWEVER as a role model for a lotta young sista's, having baby after baby with different cats isnt the example I would want for my babygirl. I guess i'm a old fashion cat, I still believe a man and woman should be married before having babies, what God has put together let no man tear apart. I thought she was in a relationship with some dude name Jay? didnt they just have a baby a hot minute ago? women in a committed relationship dont address themselves as single.....................................
stoneyisland | April 1, 2009 1:46 PM | Permalink...and she was tweeting practically all night!
coco | April 1, 2009 12:49 PM | PermalinkLater she said "sometimes u have to write as if only the angels see. i hide myself from no one they all must know I want to grow!"
so open
She always marches to the beat of her own drum.
Soulrific | April 1, 2009 12:38 PM | PermalinkIsn't this one of the things we love about Erykah. Her unapologetic openness.
