Mariah Carey Has A Message For The 'Obsessed'
Wanna know the best defense against cocky, nihilistic Detroit rappers? Synthesized, vengeful Pop music! That's right, Mariah Carey has a song for that ass! As promised, "Obsessed" has finally been serviced to radio and someone had better watch out. She's a little fed-up right now with the lies, and attributes these delusional infractions to recreational drugs and a Napoleon complex, among other things. Why, she's a "press conference" and you're but a little "conversation." Ooooh, burn!
She's talking about something, or someone, and someone's gonna be mad, according to The-Dream. Remember when he said it was okay for us to say he said that? Well we're saying it. Mariah's pissed! In fact, she's so pissed that she'd rather devote her God-given talent to infantile rejoinders than releasing the type of music that made us fans in the first place. But what do we know? We're just "haters." Since her label likes to waste its budget on litigious pursuits against bloggers (instead of properly promoting its talent), then we must rely on the trusty YouTube for today's audio sample:
Oh Christ. Sweet levitating Christ, what the hell happened to music?

all my friends love Mariah Carey!
Shaunte Drey | July 1, 2010 9:40 PM | Permalink2 out of 5 stars.....this song is bloody awful. Sounds like Ciara or Tweet would even release as 2nd- 3rd single.
A flop!!!!
JD Harris | June 23, 2009 1:14 PM | PermalinkMariah, I need you to grow up. You are not Peter Pan. Thank you.
chynadoll | June 18, 2009 7:48 PM | PermalinkWhitney Houston - Whatchu' Lookin At....
This is looking like deja vu to me. *Whistle Tones* Terrible~~~~
Korami | June 18, 2009 7:13 PM | PermalinkThis is unfortunate - this song is an absolute piece of sh*t - sorry - but the beat sux - i hate "the dream" for this - he should just go back to sleep where he belongs - and mariah is singing about CRAP - why the f*ck doesnt she get some REAL producers in the mix - shes gone BACKWARDS - i hate her so much for ths rite now - music is losing integrity in the "commercial" world - this track aint even catchy and is WORSE than the last albums first track "touch my body" - stupid woman. sorry to curse but im annoyed.
mr. ed | June 17, 2009 7:45 PM | Permalink@ Nyeem.. I agree with your sentiments on Eminem. The man is a loser. He has based his career on how much he hates the women in his life (mother, ex-wife, ex-girlfriends) and I pity his daughter.
While I don't like the song, I hear the lyrics.. they apply to that man. I actually think the lyrics would have been more hard hitting in some old school pop ballad - Mariah Style with a choir in the background.. lol!
Anyhoo, sorry, the this song, is beneath Mariah. Now the song is not that bad, but I am an 80s baby. I am not American and I can tell you, I stan for Mariah because her music was a part of my childhood growing up in Nairobi (ok, enough of the stories.. and if you are confused as to my origins.. google it..lol! Just kidding).. Mariah is still one of the best pop vocalists of her time.. and I admire her because she actually writes most of her music...
In addition, there is no reason to say we who wish for the old school Mariah should get over it. People have different preferences. I respect your opinion, also. Just agree to disagree. We are all fans with different tastes. Mariah has always had a mixture of ballads as well as pop hits. I guess she is just moving with the times. Can't hate on that (too much..haha). Anyhoo, I wish her more and more success in everything that she does. A True Talent!
D | June 17, 2009 5:32 PM | PermalinkI love how people are bashing MC's song but no one has uttered one word of how the filthy pill popping jerk disrespected her. She has never once said anything harsh about him but everyone thinks his song is so good and her's is so bad, please. Em has a daughter how would he feel when little Hayley grows up and someone does it to her the same way he's been dishing it to Mariah, God forbid but karma comes back 10 fold. I think the song is deliciously infective, it captures just enough "dig". Anyone who's been the topic of slander where sexual stuff goes can relate. I know a lot of us have heard nasty rumors one time or another about ourselves so you can def relate. Now for those of you fans that wish for old MC, give it up. She has already proven herself time and time again. So what if she used auto-tone on this track. It is relevant in this era of music today and she is keeping up with the growing trend as music itself evolves. She would not have been around as long as she has if she hadn't evolved around with the musical era's of what people are listening too. I bet your the same people who Listen to T-Pain & Lil Wayne loving their auto-tone with already some horrbile voices.....Hmm. All I can say is well done MC and looking forward to the rest of the Album as I am with all your stuff. Eminem is good too, but being a disrespectful person will get you only so far. I mean calling people CUNT's hmm and you who like his song over her's thinks that is relevant and cool in this era. Really shows how much instillment in respect your parents showed you if you absolutely think that is the hotness... Shame on him and kudos for MC for getting back at him but doing it with class, style and grace.
Nyeem | June 17, 2009 4:49 PM | PermalinkThis song is dope !, Dream did it again, Tricky did a "Dr Dre'ish" type of track that fits the subject matter. And Dave Pensado and Jaycen mixed the track, so that it sounds like 2010. I like it.
Those of you who "love the old MC" , should get a nice dose on that on her new album. She's back in the studio with Walter..so sappy, power ballads should be a plenty.
Mutada al sader the king | June 17, 2009 2:48 PM | PermalinkI love MC but this sucks
blknite | June 17, 2009 12:56 PM | PermalinkDa hell is this? Bad move, Mariah.
Soulrific | June 17, 2009 10:16 AM | PermalinkThe song sucks big time and Mariah tries too damn hard to be sexy, I thought i'd never utter these words as a man but I have to......"Mariah put on some clothes, enough is enough already"
stoneyisland | June 17, 2009 10:14 AM | Permalinkand it is only Tuesday
j | June 17, 2009 1:11 AM | PermalinkYou'd think with all that paper she'd have a life.
The LoveHater | June 16, 2009 9:46 PM | PermalinkThis is just beyond awful.
Faith | June 16, 2009 9:42 PM | PermalinkStill luv Mariah, will buy the record as a die-hard, but I'm quite let down. And annoyed. Oh well.-QH
QH | June 16, 2009 9:30 PM | PermalinkI know I am going to be the only one who likes it, but I do. Its fun, catchy, lighthearted. i was a bit disappointed that she went the auto-tune route but hopefully she only uses it on this song and not the rest of the album. While I do love that Mariah can still make youthful music without it sounding corny, I do want to hear some mature sounding music from her in the coming years.
sasha | June 16, 2009 8:50 PM | Permalink@Joe: You win. Comment of the day!
I second with Bree, as we conversed on Twitter, that this is just plain generic. I now seriously think The Dream could've saved this for Christina Milian...she needs a hit, this would've been perfect charity! Pairing this up next to "Honey" and even 2005's "Say Somethin'" is quite appalling...five steps way back.
Audio Diva | June 16, 2009 8:43 PM | PermalinkThis is some of the worst trash I ever heard. Em's song is at least listenable!
Statik | June 16, 2009 8:39 PM | PermalinkI had a conversation w/ the Audio Diva on Twitter about the dullness of this song. Mariah is better than this and the use of the Devil's tool, autotune, doesn't help.
What's with talented singers (MC, Mary, etc.) resorting to mediocre songs?
Bree | June 16, 2009 8:32 PM | PermalinkMaybe Eminem should come out with a new song making fun of the fact that Mariah Carey doesn't know how to sing anymore and Maybe Mariah will make an album where she uses her voice
