Never 'Unsung': Minnie Riperton On TV One
Heads up, bouncers! Cable network TV One has added Minnie Riperton to its roster of artists on Unsung, a behind-the-scenes music documentary series that returns for its second season this Sunday. Forgive me for not having seen any of Unsung's previous episodes, but since I absolutely adore Minnie Riperton, I will be setting the DVR to catch this one. The teaser trailer which is below, has one of the best descriptions of Minnie's music that I have ever heard. Radio personality and music consultant Dyana Williams has said, "We had never quite heard anything that blended opera, and pop, and rock, and R&B, and gospel. [Come To My Garden] is one of the sweetest pieces of music I have ever heard in my life." Well put. Make sure to tune in and be turned out June 7th on TV One.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!! I'M TOO EXCITED. MINNIE RIPERTON IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SINGERS AND I'M ONLY 26. THATS HOW GREAT SHE IS, HER MUSIC IS STILL LOVED BY PEOPLE IN MY GENERATION!! I'M SO GLAD TVONE IS STARTING OFF WITH HER. UNSUNG IS A GREAT DOCUMENTARY SERIES. I LOVE ME SOME MINNIIE RIPERTON!!!!!!

I caught all of the previous ones, too & I agree w/poster "Nina" - by the time the DeBarge Unsung went off, my mouth was hanging open in shock/disbelief!! Did those kids go thru (& some still are) hell or what? I'm so glad they made a show like this giving tribute to folks who otherwise wouldn't get their stories told!

Nina | June 3, 2009 4:30 PM | Permalinkyes yes yes!! i have this compilation of minnie and i haven't really given it much listen, which is about to change after watching this promo. but... i appreciate her artistry. it's very necessary. like "unsung". i LOVE the series and if you haven't seen last season, you should try to catch it. tv1 repeats "unsung" VERY often (i know this because my dvr records it EVERYTIME it comes on). there were only four episodes: donny hathaway, debarge, the clark sisters and phyliss hyman. and with each episode, i walked away with more appreciation for the artist. so much so, that i've downloaded any and everything i could get my hands on of theirs. GREAT series!!!!!!!!
