Maxwell Had Us Wide-Awake On The 'Early Show'!

What's that you say? You didn't get up early enough to see Maxwell on CBS's Early Show this morning? You had to go to work? You didn't even know about it?! It's okay. Dry those tears, ease those fears. The videos are now online. Calm yourself and listen to Maxwell perform "Pretty Wings", "Sumthin, Sumthin", "Bad Habits" and "Ascension", as well as wax poetic on the tragic passing of Michael Jackson. Additionally, there's no way our boy was going to make a New York appearance without SoulBounce being there to bear witness. Harlem and I attended the taping Wednesday afternoon to bring back some tidbits from the live show. Before the inside scoop - "Pretty Wings" live, ladies & gents. More video, pics and details after the jump:

Maxwell was a bit tardy for his 11am appearance due to his driver being pulled over by the cops for using the horn. New Yorkers know that in some neighborhoods it is actually illegal to use your horn. Oops. Those of us following him on Twitter received word of the detainment from Maxwell himself about an hour before he was set to appear with this update: "we just got stopped by the COPs because our driver honked his horn... we are being detained... and may miss the CBS performance..."

While Maxwell and entourage were being held by the po-po we were subjected to the humor, for lack of a better word, of the Early Show warm-up munchkin (he was a tiny man). He informed the audience of the Twitter update but assured us there would indeed still be a performance. Maxwell finally showed around 11:30am looking dapper in a charcoal grey suit and crisp white button down and immediately went into "Pretty Wings". The audience showed their enthusiasm by screaming, cheering, clapping, singing, and waving their newly obtained BLACKsummers'night CDs in the air.

An energetic and flirtacious "Sumthin, Sumthin" followed a quick chat with Early Show's host Chris Wragge. Edited for brevity from the broadcast was Maxwell's reiteration of the reason for his long absence, namely "to take time to be a real person and make music just for the love of it". Also edited out was the entire "Bad Habits" performance; however, thanks to sistasuga on YouTube, you can watch him work it out below:

Maxwell described the encore, "Ascension", as  "the song that made it all happen for me".

Before the band joined in, the audience sang the entire first verse a'capella, much to Maxwell's delight. Again, CBS' broadcast didn't include this intimate moment but if you'd like to see it, sistasuga on YouTube comes through.
