A Soulful Noise
Chico DeBarge Talks 'Addiction'
Most times, Twitter aside, we don't know what artists go through on a daily basis. We're not aware of their struggles and pain. We only hear what they want us to hear, or what the media tells us (read: Michael Jackson). And then there are artists like Chico DeBarge, who is painfully honest about his stumbles and falls. Just as his former CD, Long Time, No See helped him sort things out following his incarceration, his latest project, Addiction, is serving as a tool for him to cope under similar difficult circumstances. After being stabbed while out on tour a few years back, he was hospitalized and became hooked on painkillers. The album is about Chico's battle to get past that "affliction," according to him. More random trivia: Did you know that he started an online magazine that covers everything from art to architecture? Me, neither. The man is deep. And check after the bounce to see Chico alongside his partner Joe as they pay tribute to MJ. Enjoy.

I was so pleasantly surprised with how strong Addiction is. I would say it's the strongest black music album of the year so far.
