The 'Trouble' With Ginuwine...

I have a theory (that I just made up): Any song that starts with the words "Baby girl" is probably in trouble, and isn't a song I'd want to listen to. Therein lies the problem with Ginuwine's "Trouble"--from his album A Man's Thoughts--which has a new video that dropped earlier this week. Think about it, can you think of any song that's recovered lyrically after those two words were uttered at its beginning? Yup, me, neither. It just screams of laziness. That's my problem with the clip as well--just a mediocre effort that not only doesn't break any new ground, it's not even that entertaining. If you're an Elgin Lumpkin fan, demand more from your boy. Please. In the meantime, check the video below and give us your thoughts.

It sounds like a song that Omarion or Marques Houston could have made, but I have to admit that I'm feeling it. I think older artists (read: Mariah, Jamie, Ginuwine) that you would think should be making more "adult-mined" music are just trying to stay relevant. Do you Ginuwine; you still sound and look good!

I think Ginuwine is one of the most innovative R&B artists of all time. His album the “The Bachelor” was the second album after Aliyah’s “One in a million”. Both of these albums, along with Missy Elliot’s Supa Dupa Fly changed the way R&B production and vocal arrangements were done forever. These three artists along with Timbaland had just as much impact on R&B as Teddy Riley with New Jack Swing, Jam and Lewis etc.

Everyone…. And I mean everyone, from your favorite producer’s producer, and your favorite singers singer, had a little (or a lot) of Timband, Missy, and Ginuwine in their music. It must be hard to sit back and watch a guy like Timberlake, sell massive amounts of albums using the same exact sound and formula that Ginuwine established on his first album in the mid 90’s. Songs like “my love”, “what goes around” etc are all Ginuwine/Timbaland cirque 97. So yea the baby hair, and pretty boy thing was and still is weird. And yea he never had a Brian Mcknight level voice. (Although Ginuwine is no slouch). But he was original. His first album sounded like nothing that had ever come out before.

i've actually been rocking this album for the last 3 weeks on lala.com. i guess i like ginuwine because he stays in his lane. his lyrics have never been real deep. he doesn't try to oversing his songs. he's a packaged product partnered with timbo and missy...and i loved that back in the day.

its an album i can play when i want to be in a better mood without having to worry about my 1 year old and wife being lam-blasted with nonsense.

*sigh

i guess i'm getting older ears (i'm only 26)

now...if only his wife (solé) would follow up with her decent album...i'll be happy.

I agree with Harlem, I'm not feeling this track too.
"The senior" was for me his relevant thing, nice and smooth production.
The latest album was weak compare to the others.
For me the perfect match would be (production/Ginuwine)
Devante Swing/Elgin
Donell Jones/Elgin
Underdogs/Elgin
Kedar Massenburg/Elgin
Ol school Timbaland/Elgin
Ol School Chris Stoke/Elgin

I want the "Same ol G" freaky things back

i think im gonna have to disagree with harlem on this track. im feelin the beat and the hook. the video is aight but my main concern with ginuwine is that his albums are inconsistent. he has like 1 to 3 tracks that i really like on the album, all the others are just so so. just my opinion but i will definitely be on the look out for this 1 to drop

yeah, its a weak song but the whole album is that way imo. elgin has been leaving much to be desired with his last few albums

Harlem what you expect from a 30 something year old dude with babyhair and bangs:) This dude has always been so over rated it's not funny
