Today, I've come to praise Kanye West, not to bury him. It's amazing that even when the man decides to take a break, he remains in the spotlight. His latest pet project is a short film entitled We Were Once A Fairytale, directed by Where The Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze. And it's riveting. No, seriously, I wasn't able to take my eyes away from the screen, never knowing what in the hell 'Ye would do next. Sure, you're probably saying to yourselves, 'Nothing Mr. West does these days would surprise me.' I thought the same thing. Especially when the film began, and he seemed to be playing himself, and um, playing himself in a club. He's drunk and obnoxious and inappropriate. And human. Surprisingly, and somewhat refreshingly, West and Jonze allow us an 'inside' look that's definitely not to be missed. Please, watch the film. I won't spoil the ending. However, if the metaphor he uses in the film reflects what he's actually taking time out to do right now in real life, then maybe, just maybe this 'fairytale' will have a happy ending.
