When Making A Video Goes Wrong: Alicia Keys' 'Doesn't Mean Anything'

Alicia Keys' new video for "Doesn't Mean Anything" premiered this morning on Perez Hilton's gag-worthy website, and it should have been renamed "Doesn't Make Any Sense." It started off with promise, as Alicia looked out over the cold, hard city while lamenting about a lost love but went downhill on rollerskates shortly after the music started. I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the song, but this video surely didn't make me like it anymore as videos sometimes do. Keys is lucky she's nice to look at because there's not much else to see here. Random objects disappearing into plumes of smoke? Nonsensical. The CGI desert? Wack. The rock climbing in stiletto booties? Ridiculous. The hip and thigh action in those leggings? Banging. My verdict: Skip it and keep it moving. Which is precisely what Alicia should have done when the director presented this foolishness to her.
