Sade Returns Like The 'Soldier' She Is

Sade is back. But then you again, you knew that already. "Soldier Of Love" dropped yesterday, but excuse us for taking some time to ourselves to savor it completely. I really can't say much more about this track except that it's just awesome. I'm so happy to be able to say that I have lived long enough to have remembered and loved every album, song, and video that she and her band have released. My restraint is hopefully understandable because if I really went into how great this event is, let alone this song, I will explode. Get your adulation on in the comments.

Sade: "Soldier Of Love"

Comments

I did a collective sigh at all the Voodoo bashing. I always thought Sade was a bit overrated, especially by the sound of that new track, it reaffirmed that opinion. My mother rocked Sades albums from back to front EVERDAY for a few years which stopped me from loving Ms. Sade.
BUT DAMN! I didn't fully like Voodoo when it first came out because I didn't fully comprehend the themes at as a fifteen year old. I respun it again at twenty-one, and I am blown the hell away with each listen. Classics:One Mo'gin, Spanish Joint, Untitled(HDIF),The Root, Playa Playa, Left and Right, Send it On,Africa, all those songs embody sensuality, pain, history, bravado that most artists fail miserably at touching upon on their albums within the last twenty years. But hey maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

I love this song it is refreshing. Each time I listen to it I hear something new. Finally some grown folks music.

The 1st time I heard by your side I was like meh... whats this country ***? Amonth later you couldnt prise that single out of my cold dead hands.

this song I LOVE. played it over and over. wondering why do i hear it so differently each time? then i realise Sade paints her songs with sonic washes... layers and layers... this time its the drums... next time its that crazy guitar at the end... then OMG that line was about me when i thought no one was listening!

As usual this band nails it EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Okay sounds like we need to have a post about Voodoo... I love(d) it. I appreciate it in a different way everytime I listen to it.

Now for the issue at hand... this new track is okay... I would give it a B. Not awful, but just okay. Looking forward to whatever else she has in store

Completely underwhelming ... They could have come harder than this. And I agree with the poster about "Voodoo" ... complete trash. I think I played that CD like three times.

I like the track. It may not set off fireworks, but id hardly equate it to a Frankie it LOL. I gotta agree on D'Angelo tho. Theres maybe a couple tracks I like. The rest of if just feels like one long drawn out weed haze. Which is fine if youre into that, but I cant tell where one songs ends and another begins. Just a long boring plodding piece of work... for me.

D'angelo's Voodoo is one of my favorite cds ever. I love almost every song on it.

This Sade track is not instantly appealing to me, but I'll wait before I judge...it is Sade after all.

I think it is dope. In my opinion, Sade never came wack.

this is a "B" effort, altho it's still pretty darn good imo.

i'm also underwhelmed by this....its niot a bad song it's just after so long a wait i just expected more

I'm not head over heels about it but I'm definitely not disappointed, I can get into it. I'm more suprised that a lot of you weren't initially/aren't feelin D'Angelo's Voodoo, that is a genius piece of work, I love it mannn!

@ Stoney,

"Remember how when D'angelo's second album FINALLY dropped and we all rushed out to cop it, threw it in the CD Player and collectively said 'WTF is this?'"

No. I actually don't. D'Angelo's Voodoo was gold from my first listen. And it still is. Before you have cow, wait for the rest of her album to drop. Maybe you'll like it better than this one, single, solitary song.

I Like it.

Stoneyisland, you trippin' hard. True, this Sade track isn't bananas, but it's a slow burner. But more importantly, Voodoo is fantastic. Don't know what you talkin' about.

Not the right song.. Not saying she needs to make Taboo 2, but I'm w/ Stoney, the song is "not that great" and I completly agree w/ you on the D'angelo thing. Only good song on that joint was the 2nd single. The Prince thing. I felt oh, so duped.

i liked it. i'm hoping that they just released that single to appeal to the masses but the true jems have yet to be heard. i mean, c'mon. it's sade. as long as she's not rapping and she still has her original band, how could it fail? yes, that's been said before but again, this is sade.

and for the record stoney, i loved voodoo when i first heard it. i wasn't expecting brown sugar 2.0, especially since everyone had tried to jump on that bandwagon. after 5 years, i needed d'angelo to grow and evolve. as much as i loved brown sugar, i wasn't the same person 5 years later and i didn't expect him to be either.

...as they did before, this new song just had oppened the door for me,...with SADE's music you've to be patient, listening once and twice, along the days and nights,'till your ears let your heart felling the songs,...

..Barcelona Loves Sade,....does she loves Us?...enough to come to play?...

Woo-Hooo!!!
I loved this track...It moved me. I LOVE Sade and I believe in the energy that this music pulsates with and the lyrical content is awesome as well. It definitely does IT for me. Sade is the truth.... and love it or leave it for those that she came back to... really

It moved me about as much as watching Keyshia Coles mom act a fool on national TV. I hope that clears thangs up:) Holla.

So... Im not sure i understand... Did this first single move you or not? Its kinda unclear.

Remember how when D'angelo's second album FINALLY dropped and we all rushed out to cop it, threw it in the CD Player and collectively said "WTF is this?" 5 years for this???? same sentiment. I am gonna have to throw in one of her older CD's to get this bad taste out of my mouth. Due to the recession I cant just buy CD's on previous track records of an artist. Either the lead single moves me or I am passing on the entire project.
