Driis Invites Us Into His 'Private Garden'
I am a music writer and as such I have learned to remain as objective as possible when it comes to critiquing music, even when the music belongs to a man I have dreamt of in the past. I am freely admitting this. Fine. But when an actor decides to make music, there can be disastrous consequences. Driis, better known as Idris Elba, has dropped a 9th Wonder-produced single, "Private Garden," that does have a title that is a bit cliché. Despite the Hip Hop soulful stylings of this song, however, it manages to work. He knows his limitations and doesn't overstep them. No, I have not forgiven him for his rhyming over Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C." Only time will tell if High Class Problems, due February 8th, will prove that he is able to hold his own.

baybruh | February 6, 2010 2:58 PM | Permalinknot bad Drills. I support it.
lookadeez | February 5, 2010 4:19 PM | PermalinkWhile there's certainly no debate: he isn't the best singer, he does OWN this track. Had to play it a few times. He knows his limitations and where he lacks in ability, he makes up in swagger.

DEFone | February 5, 2010 11:30 AM | PermalinkI gotta stand up for DJ Drills on this one. i love this track & i can't wait for the album to drop! I had no idea that people weren't feelin this track. bummer... But I still got your back, keep doin' your thing!
DEFone | February 5, 2010 11:27 AM | PermalinkWhile this is better than that Terrence Howard travesty, I'm not feeling it. The music is cool but he's no singer. He's a great actor though!
musikluva | February 5, 2010 9:14 AM | Permalinkthis is so much more tolerable than anything terrence howard attempted to call 'singing'
SoulMusiqLuva | February 4, 2010 9:35 PM | PermalinkIf only I could turn his voice down and just enjoy the track. Very smooth... but hearing his voice ruins everything the song does right.
D Lee | February 4, 2010 5:29 PM | PermalinkTook a minute... but i'm feeling it. I'd bump it.
