C. Love Tells Haters They 'Can't Hold Me Down'

Every now and again, you come across an artist who you look at completely different once you see and hear their music in video format. C. Love is one of those artists for me. C. Love has been building quite a large following from his grind of performing at open mics throughout the Nation's Capital and opening regularly for headlining acts like the high-energy Love Peace Project. While some describe him as a "rapping and singing" Bob Marley, C. Love's style can fairly be summed up as a new spin on contemporary acoustic soul; adding to the strong mix of acoustic soul singers that call the DC area their home--from Nigerian-born guitarist/singer Kuku, to singer/poet Ally Way. While Kuku and Ally Way have been successful as touring artists, garnering fans nationally and abroad, C. Love's new video for "Can't Hold Me Down," released this past weekend, is his message to the masses that he is good and ready to take his place as the headliner. This video indicates he is picking up the pace on promoting his same-titled CD that was soft-released three years ago. While I have enjoyed C. Love immensely the few times I've seen him live, I must say that the video somewhat perked up my fan antennae. The video, shot throughout downtown DC, definitely appealed to my hometown love.
