A Double Dose Of Ne-Yo

It seems like just yesterday that Ne-Yo released his last album, Year of the Gentleman, but it's been almost two years if you can believe it. To make up for his "absence" he breaks us off with two new videos for the songs "Beautiful Monster" and "Champagne Life." The singles are both from his upcoming September release, Libra Scale, and the videos are closer to short films in length and concept. They don't have anything on "Thriller"--the standard bearer for long-form videos--but they're interesting I suppose. I don't sound very excited, I know, but that's because I happen to think that the song "Beautiful Monster" is hot garbage in a heat wave. Although "Closer" eventually grew on me, dance music and Ne-Yo are like oil and water  and "Beautiful Monster" lacks the thump that "Closer" possessed. The other song, "Champagne Life," however, is more my speed and along the lines of what I like to hear from Ne-Yo. The videos themselves are big budget affairs featuring aliens with sparkly eyes and outta-this-world dance moves, Ne-Yo flexing his acting chops and Columbus Short sporting a comical British accent. Watch the clips in order so that you can follow the story line and get ready for more videos to continue the tale. Ne-Yo's just getting started. Yay.
