Jazmine Sullivan Does A Fly 'Drive By'

This is why I love Jazmine Sullivan. This woman, full bodied and full throated, always seems to burrow straight into matters of the heart with the power of her voice alone. Her latest online leak, "Drive By (Always On My Mind)," initially sounds like typical Auto-Tune mishmash, but eventually the futuristic chorus gives way to her real singing in the meat of the track. While listening to Jazmine Sullivan sing about what Jazmine Sullivan usually sings about (love lost, yearning, etc.), the chorus just kept grabbing me, even with my general disdain for electronically-modified vocals. Then it hit me -- the song she sampled for the harmony is "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos. This song was indelibly marked on my soul when I first saw A Bronx Tale, and the fact that she has a genuine love for vintage music made me appreciate Jazmine's jam that much more.
