De La + Fela = Nothin' But 'Soul'

What do you get when you mix Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti with hip-hop pioneers De La Soul? Well, Fela Soul, of course. Gummy Soul artist Amerigo Gazaway had the foresight to combine the two musical forces, and I must say that I thank him for it. Featuring eight tracks that span De La's lengthy career, Gazaway takes De La and funks them up with help from superb flips of Fela's back catalog (in some cases making them sound better than the originals). Most of the song choices featured here are positively inspired, from mixing "Breakadawn" with "Water No Get Enemy" to mixing Gorillaz' "Feel Good Inc." with Fela's "Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am." It's one of those things that you'd never think of yourself to combine, but, when done, you can't really imagine how no one ever thought of it before. You can listen to the 33-minute set below and head over to Gummy Soul's Bandcamp page to download the whole project. Also, check after the bounce for the found footage video for Amerigo's mashup of "Breakadawn" and "Water No Get Enemy."
