'Today' Candice Anitra Marks The 2nd Anniversary Of The Haiti Earthquake

It's hard to believe, but today marks the two-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck the island of Haiti, killing an estimated 316,000 people and leaving more than one million homeless. The after-effects of that day are still being felt now, and the rebuilding of Haiti will continue for many years to come, a fact that indie soul artist Candice Anitra not only realizes but is intent on helping out with. Inspired by the events of that day, Candice wrote and recorded the song "Today," a hard-hitting reminder that we are ultimately at the hands of Mother Nature and that we must help and support each other in times of need. The video features images from Nadia Shira Cohen's post-quake Haiti photo essay, "Exodus" (Harper's, May 2010) combined with footage of Candice's performance of the song.

The single is available now via Candice's Bandcamp page for a minimum $1 donation, however those who want to can name their own price and donate more. With all proceeds being split between Partners In Health's construction of the Mirebalais National Teaching Hospital, and The Global Syndicate's "Shine A Light" campaign, it's certainly a cause worth supporting. The track will also appear on Candice's upcoming album, Big Tree, due March 26th.
