Take Frank Ocean's 'Whip' For A Spin

When it rains, it pours. We just gave you a listen to Frank Ocean's "White," which will appear on The OF Tape, Vol 2. when it's released tomorrow. Over the weekend, just before he (officially) crushed the hopes of those waiting on nostalgia, LITE, Frank leaked yet another new track called "Whip Appeal." You R&B purists can put away your pitchforks, though, as it's not a remake of the Babyface song of the same name. Frank's idea of "Whip Appeal" is a Pam Grier look-alike behind the wheel of his sportscar as they cruise down the freeway. The mid-tempo groove lacks the lyrical heft of "White," but it definitely makes up for it in sheer style. Delivering the verse in a cadence somewhere between singing and rapping, he talks about (and to) the girl who's currently driving him wild. It's a fun little track, perfect for the unseasonably warm weather we're having these days. Though there's no nostalgia, LITE, it's enough to make me anxious to see what direction his new stuff is going to take.
