Coultrain & Waajeed's 'Hustler' Takes Us To Another Era

Coultrain first acquainted himself with my ears back in 2009 when he showed up all over Platinum Pied Pipers' sophomore release, Abundance. I just had to find out about the newest vocalist on the music scene. However, a quick Google search would reveal one of the things I dread most -- finding out that my newest musical discovery is anything but. The St. Louis native had formally introduced himself to music fans a full year prior on his self-released debut, The Adventures of Seymour Liberty. Since then, he's gone on to release an EP and linked up with Black Spade to form Hawthorne Headhunters. He recently hooked up with PPP's Waajeed once more on "She's A Hustler." A funky ode to one female's womanly wiles, Coultrain gets his Curtis Mayfield on, while Waajeed crafts a track that definitely would have impressed the man himself. There's a good reason for the nostalgic sound. On his website, Waajeed explains that Universal UK had approached him several years ago about doing an entire album for television licensing, giving him the opportunity to rework tracks from the company's archive. And with Paul Randolph of Jazzanova and Amp Fiddler fame on the bass, the result is one funky good time. Though I'm not sure if the project's been completed, in the meantime, you can sign up for Waajeed's newsletter at Bling47 and download the song for free 99. [H/T: OKP]
