I missed last night's telecast of the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, but I'm sure I'll catch one of the 50-11 repeats if I'm ever inclined to watch. Til then, I've been checking out a few of the performances online on MTV.com, and the performer who I was most interested in seeing was Frank Ocean. With a fire raging and a forest-style scene on stage, Frankie was accompanied by only an acoustic guitarist during the stripped down performance of "Thinkin Bout You." What was most impressive was that Frank was singing totally live with no backing tracks or the aid/crutch of other assorted television trickery (oh hey, Rihanna). And the man sounded damn good, giving viewers something heartfelt, genuine and thoroughly enjoyable.
