Are You Still 'Down' With Jon B?

When Jon B made his debut with 1995's "Someone to Love," a few of us in radio land could barely differentiate Mr. Cool Relax's voice from that of duet partner, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. But Jon B quickly came to define late-'90's blue-eyed soul and even scored street cred with "Are U Still Down," a track that featured an early posthumous rap from guest star 2Pac. On his latest track, "Settle Down Type," Jon proves that he's still relevant and instantly recognizable as he revisits the sounds of his heyday. His smooth encounter with the melody finds him contemplating the single life and how it doesn't make him happy. Add to the fact that all of his buddies are finding their "wifeys," and you actually start to feel for his lament. Not that it is without its moments of painful wailing and a few of gruffness, but the latter only strengthens Jon's delivery of grown-man lyrics and subject matter. The song appears on his forthcoming B Sides Collection, which features 23 unreleased cuts recorded between 2001 to 2012 and is available for pre-order now on his website with a Tuesday, January 29th release date.
