What A 'Friend' We Have In Rae Ellis

Gospel singer Rae Ellis flips the script with "My Friend," her extra soulful take on a familiar old television show theme song. The world was originally introduced to the classic "Thank You For Being A Friend" by rock songwriter Andrew Gold on his 1978 album All This And Heaven Too and again by Cynthia Fee as the theme song on NBC's legendary series Golden Girls. Ellis, however, gives this well-known tune a new feel with her refreshing blend of soul and gospel influences. With a light, sweet, angelic and jazzy tone similar to that of Chrisette Michele, this Buffalo, NY native breaths life into this remake as she sings a love song to the greatest friend there could ever be, God. "My Friend" is featured on Ellis' debut album The Diary of Rae Ellis. The album, with its standout moments like "My Friend," "The Break-Up Song" and "Google Jesus," finds Ellis musically transcribing pages and following the blueprint of Alicia Keys' 2003 GRAMMY Award-winning album, The Diary of Alicia Keys. Have a listen to "My Friend" and head over to iTunes or Amazon to download Rae Ellis' debut album, The Diary of Rae Ellis.
