It's 'Never Too Late' To Discover Staycen & Koen

Ten years ago, The Foreign Exchange cohorts Phonte and Nicolay forged new ground when they connected via the Internet and bridged the gap between the United States and the Netherlands with their debut release, Connected. Fast forward to 2013 and the precedent the groundbreaking duo set still lives on, with producers and artists from all corners of the globe connecting online and teaming up to make music, often without ever having met in person. The latest duo to virtually cross the waters is Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Staycen and Holland-based producer Koen. After hearing her 2011 self-titled EP (which featured production by Muhsinah), Koen reached out to Staycen so the two could work together. They teamed up on the seven-track EP Never Too Late, available for download on Bandcamp. Although the project dropped back in October, the first single, "Never Too Late," is finally getting the video treatment. While the video itself isn't necessarily top quality, the message of self-love it conveys makes up for it. Staycen's sugary vocals fit nicely with Koen's mellow groove. Though whether or not this project leads to a more permanent partnership like the one Nicolay and Phonte have established is still to be determined, the debut collabo between Staycen and Koen is definitely one worth checking out.
