Daley Is 'Broken' Hearted

Only last week upcoming British soul man Daley unleashed his third EP, Songs That Remind Me Of You, for free via his website. Serving as a stopgap before he finally releases his much-anticipated debut album, Days & Nights, the EP gave us more of what we have come to expect from the coiffured Mancunian, namely a catchy blend of pop, R&B and soul, all sung in that enviable falsetto. Yesterday Daley dropped another gem, this one entitled "Broken," which is billed simply as his "new UK single." We are assuming that this is the lead single from his album, but information is a little sketchy at the moment. Either way "Broken" is a nice piece of mid-tempo soul, dealing with the fall-out from a relationship that has ended badly. Of course vocally, Daley is on-point, but the backing track sounds like it could have been ripped borrowed straight from Emeli Sandé's Our Version Of Events. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm yearning to hear Daley backed with some real, live instrumentation. Hopefully his rumored collaboration with The Roots will fill that void.
