Does Justin Timberlake 'Take Back The Night'?

All of a sudden, music with retro black influences is back on the radio. In late April, we asked whether Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" would spawn a disco revival. This revival of sorts may not be all disco, but it's all '70's and '80's black music. Chris Brown pulled a modern day Michael Jackson on "Fine China" and Robin Thicke has put sweet music influenced by Marvin Gaye in my ear. Justin Timberlake's first single for The 20/20 Experience Part 2, "Take Back The Night," sounds like the sequel to Luther Vandross' "Bad Boy/Having A Party" from 1982's Forever,
For Always, For Love
right down to the party in the background. This is definitely pop/R&B for the sophisticated crowd. On the track, JT seduces his paramour into an evening of fun and letting go. I feel like we are in the midst of a musical arms race between retro crooners trying to go as old school as possible. Bring it on!
