After the lackluster response to her last song "Cold War," Marsha Ambrosius is back with Ne-Yo in tow on the "official" first single from Friends & Lovers, the contemporary R&B ballad "Without You." This slow burner features Marsha singing about her life without her boo with a few f-bombs dropped for good measure. Ordinarily, Marsha throws out creative rhymes and lyrics, but I ended the song with an "I've been here before" feeling. I can't portend to understand what Marsha's label has planned, but after a couple listens the song has not made a significant impact other than making me want to go listen to her first album or some old Prince. As we saw with Late Nights & Early Mornings, when Marsha is on her game, she catapults to the top. Hopefully we can expect more of that real, creative and honest material from this fluttering songbird on her sophomore album.
