Well, musically at least, this week is off to a fantastic start. Yesterday Janelle Monáe unveiled a full stream of The Electric Lady and now we see that Gregory Porter has gone and done the same for his upcoming album, Liquid Spirit. Although a relative newcomer to the music biz, Porter has gained a large and loyal following thanks to his rich blend of jazz, soul and gospel on his previous albums, and it looks like he will only increase that following further once listeners wrap their ears around Liquid Spirit. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the album a couple of weeks back, and I have had it on repeat ever since, utterly charmed by Porter's soothing baritone and ear for a catchy melody. Early favorites include emotional ballads "Water Under Bridges" and "Hey Laura," the stomping "Musical Genocide" and the utterly addictive "Movin'," but this is definitely one of those albums you want to listen to from start through finish.
