Jimi Hendrix's 'Train' Is 'A Comin'' To Your TV

Though the mystery and legend of Jimi Hendrix has only grown since his untimely death in 1970, it seems the interest in telling his story has ramped up in recent years. Rapper/actor Andre 3000 has already filmed his turn in the biopic All Is By My Side, a film about Hendrix's early years which received mostly positive reviews after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. And now PBS' American Masters series is set to debut its documentary Hear My Train A Comin'. The doc, which uses previously unseen footage along with interviews, allows viewers a special glimpse into Jimi's story using the rocker's own words. As well, it will feature rare performances, such as footage from his 1968 appearance at the Miami Pop Festival and from a performance in Germany in September 1970 -- 12 days before his tragic death at 27. The film, which is part of the yearlong celebration of what would've been the rock icon's 70th birthday, is also being released by Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix, LLC on Blu-Ray and DVD the same day it airs on PBS with special performance features. Even better for Hendrix fans, the day will also see the release of a never-before-available 11-track recording of Jimi at the Miami Pop Festival performing some of his best known songs, including "Hey Joe," "Fire" and "Foxey Lady." So, if you're a Hendrix fan or just a music history buff, mark November 5th on your calendars and be sure to check your local listings and tune in to Hear My Train A Comin' when it airs. The film's trailer waits for you just after the bounce.
