If you are familiar with Los Angeles' ever popular Low End Theory events (and you should be), you'll also understand why last week's show with special guest Q-Tip was such an important moment in the collective's history. Founded by Daddy Kev and Nocando in 2006, this weekly music forum in Lincoln Heights has evolved into the premiere location for all of LA's hottest DJs, hip-hop artists and cool kids. Named for the A Tribe Called Quest album that had a profound influence on its founders, Q-Tip's appearance and presence marked a pivotal moment in Low End's history.

The excitement at The Airliner was palpable Wednesday evening and fervor was building quickly. At this point, word had spread about Low End's special guest, but no one could quite guarantee Q-Tip's appearance nor what he was doing that night -- and the people who did know were not allowed to confirm anything. Tip showing up promptly around 11 pm was all the confirmation needed, as he swiftly moved to the back patio area for a 45-minute DJ set. Attendees of Low End quickly shifted outside as Q-Tip spun all the favorites while flexing his impressive DJ prowess. The end of the night was a highlight for me, as Tip invited me to the mic to share my overwhelming gratitude for spending time with us that night. Sharing his praise for Low End, he kicked it with business colleagues and friends before calling it a night and making a swift exit.

These stunning photos provided by Rift Gardiner are just a glimpse into the festivities that took place that night. With appearances by Open Mike, Busdriverr, Gaslamp Killer and DJ Nobody, the party never really stopped. I was honored to be present as Low End Theory came full circle that evening. It was a great night for everyone involved. If you are in LA, make sure you check out Low End Theory's Instagram for updates on events and more.
