Romantic slow-burners, such as “Love Calls" and "I Can't Stop Loving You,” usually sum up Kem’s catalog. But he takes notes from 2012’s “You’re On My Mind” and kicks up the tempo for his latest single, “It’s You.”
Still quiet storm-friendly and as poetic as any track he’s ever penned, “It’s You” dips into territory that’s a notch higher on the funk meter. Throughout the song, Kem runs through a number of reasons why his lady is the only one for him. And just in time for summer, the lyric video features beautiful beaches, stunning sunsets and views of the ocean. That’s not all, of course, as loving couples cheese for the camera, make hearts with their hands and putting their arms around each other as they channel the theme of “It’s You.”
The feel-good lovey-doveyness is definitely experienced while following the lyrics that fly and spin across the screen. It seems, for once, that a lyric video could substitute for the real thing. Though the message is communicated well, it’s surely just a matter of time before “It’s You” gets the “official video” treatment ahead of Kem’s forthcoming album, set for release in August. But for now, get the single on iTunes and Amazon.
