The Roots Unveil A 'Never'-Ending Story

The Roots Never Still

The Roots' latest album, ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, is another masterful, moody concept piece from the crew, and the album's single "Never" is perhaps the most representative of its feel. The crew brings that haunting since of gloom in the video for the Patty Crash-featuring song as well. In it, we follow a protagonist who seems to be running from his environment, a shadowy, desolate place with its fair share of shady, faceless figures lurking in dark corners. Yet he is doomed to this place, it seems, as he keeps running in the same circle over and over again, to no avail. But then he sees a glimmer of hope when he is literally lifted from despair only to discover it was all in his head.

It's a depressing little allegory, sure, but the artfully done video is both creepy and mesmerizing. What exactly The Roots are trying to say with this one though is all up to your own interpretation. Let us know your thoughts after you take a peek at the clip right here.
