'Say You Love' Gorgon City's Remix Of Jessie Ware

Jessie Ware served up the tear-jerking “Say You Love Me” from her forthcoming Tough Love last month, which had all of us at SBHQ dabbing the corners of our eyes. That action replicated itself -- though not for the same reason -- when the song’s music video came out a few weeks later. But the only emotions we’re capable of feeling now are happy and maybe a slight itch to head to the dance floor thanks to the boys of Gorgon City and their remix of the tune.

The “Say You Love Me (Gorgon City Remix)” allows Ware’s breathy vocals to coast along a garage-deep house hybrid. Her chorus seemingly hang-glides over the wide valleys formed by the steep-dropping bass. A few echoing vocal loops, some hand claps and warble-worthy acoustics make this number strictly for fancy footwork and hands-in-the-air praise and will easily make listeners forget about the lamenting taking place in the lyrics.

The raw emotion found on the original version of “Say You Love Me” is so powerful it feels almost sacrilegious to enjoy this rework. But it’s a great groove and showcases some of the best sections of Ware’s gut-wrenching performance.
