It’s been almost five years since Donn T dropped her impressive debut album, Kaleidoscopic. Since then, she’s certainly been quite busy touring, creating music for both the big screen and small, writing, forming a record label and planning a wedding to guitarist Jake Morelli. Now she’s ready to channel her creative energy into the completion of her sophomore LP, Flight of the Donn T, which is set for a 2015 release.
As a precursor to the release of Flight of the Donn T, the Philly native will be releasing an EP next month entitled, Gramophonica, which also serves as the first album to be released on her D-tone Victorious label. The buzz surrounding the lead single “Midnight” is sure to intensify with the song’s new video. Directed by Idegosuperego Media and filmed on location at the Ace Hotel NYC, the video loosely follows a couple dealing with the aftermath of an argument.
The location is fitting, not just because it’s eclectic and visually interesting, but it’s also the birthplace of the song itself. Donn T was inspired to write the song in that very hotel after a phone argument with a close friend. Talk about coming full circle. The video is also special because it is the first official video that Donn has ever released. Naturally, she wanted to be surrounded by loved ones, so the people that you see in the video aren’t extras, but Donn’s family and friends. And though her brother Questlove doesn’t make an appearance, Donn looks quite at home in her new role of video star.
