Beyoncé Roots For Her Mom On 'Ring Off' & Aims For The Trap With '7/11'

In case you have been living under a rock or hiding from the infamous Beyhive, Beyoncé is unleashing a deluxe re-release of her Internet-shaking self-titled album. That’s right, next week the world will be graced with three remixes, footage from her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour and two brand new songs. Of course with the way the Internet works, we have already gotten our hands on “7/11” and “Ring Off,” which are the “Drunk In Love” singer’s two new numbers.

Here’s the thing. There is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that “Ring Off” is a surefire jam. Yoncé has released many a hit record with a strong female empowerment theme, but this one just might take the cake. With Mathew Knowles’ harem of baby’s mamas consistently growing and stepping into the public eye, his daughter has had enough and has seemingly recorded this island pop-tinged record in honor of her favorite strong woman, her mother. While Ms. Tina is storming through New Orleans celebrating Solange’s second coming wedding, Beyoncé is going hard in the booth for her Mama. “I understand your many sleepless nights/When you’d sit and you’d think about father/Oh how you tried to be the perfect wife,” she sings ever so passionately.

As for the bad news, “7/11” is a ratchet reaching for radio mess. Like many others, we dealt with “Drunk In Love” and “Partition.” Maybe even enjoyed them, quietly. But “7/11” finds Mrs. Carter taking a page out of the book of Future and literally saying absolutely nothing over a trap beat. This track could have easily stayed in the trashcan on Blue Ivy’s Macbook Pro and the world would not have missed a thing. Luckily, there is still that promising “Blow” remix with Pharrell to possibly make up for it. The Beyoncé: Platinum Edition re-release hits stores next week on November 24th, but you can pre-order your copy on iTunes today. Check out 90-second snippets of each track below.
