Last week J. Cole surprised fans with the announcement of his third studio album release, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, which will hit stores on December 9th. Believed to be his most personal album to date, the Fayetteville rapper gave great insight on the impact of his hometown and the source of inspiration of the album in a telling mini documentary. Since the album is named after the address of his childhood home, it is only fitting that Cole open the door and give us a tour of the very place that helped shape the man we see today.

In this new clip, J. Cole lets us step into his recently purchased three-bedroom home, where he lived with his mother, stepfather and brother. Most of the house is bare since he plans to let family members live in the house for close to rent-free; however he showed off his bedroom, which he recreated to look exactly like the room he grew up in. Cluttered with the essence of a teenage boy, it is easy to imagine the artist as a young 15 years old making beats on his beat machine, rapping along to his favorite songs in the mirror and constantly writing new rhymes in his composition books.

As he reflected and shared memories of his hip hop dreams when he was a young man, you can sense J. Cole's humility and love for fostering an authentic community with people that matter most to him. Hence the reason why he is passionate about returning to his hometown and giving the world a glimpse of the place that shaped him. See another side of Jermaine Cole below, and be sure to pre-order his forthcoming album on iTunes right now.
