Listen To Kelis Get 'Live In London'

Kelis Live In London Cover

One of our favorite albums to come out this year was without a doubt Kelis' FOOD, with its savory and sweet sounds taking the singer in a direction we definitely didn't expect from her. Something else we didn't expect? That Madame Milkshake would be able to wow us with her live show, hence why we missed out on her performances Stateside (though we did catch a filmed showing or two). Luckily, Kelis is giving those who missed out on her recent world tour a chance to take part in the fun that is her live show with the upcoming release of her live CD, Live In London.

The set, previously only available in the UK, was recorded when Kelis made a stop at London's famed Somerset House and catches her in rare form, performing tracks from not only FOOD, but also a few spanning her 15-year career. She does it all backed by a full band, which does spot-on re-creations of the FOOD tracks and reimagines her back catalog in ways we've never thought of. Take for instance how she and the band turn "Milkshake" into something fit for a night out in Morocco or the way she infuses Flesh Tone track "4th Of July" with a bit of Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman" or how "Acapella" is enlivened by taking on a few elements of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." Along the way, you'll also get FOOD tracks like "Breakfast," "Cobbler," "Rumble" and "Friday Fish Fry" and even a short throwback to the hook she sang on Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money."

If you're a fan of Kelis or just curious about her live show, you'll definitely be interested in hearing what she brings on this live recording. You can pre-order it right now on iTunes or wait until it officially drops next Tuesday, November 24th. In the meantime, stream it in its entirety right here.
