Shanice Takes The 'Blame' In Her New Power Ballad

Shanice is not wasting time using reality TV to get back on the charts. The "I Love Your Smile" singer is out with "Gotta Blame Me," which recently got some shine during Flex & Shanice, her show on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) with actor-hubby Flex Alexander.

The track's composition places it firmly in pop power ballad territory — and musically almost worthy of the jawns handed to the winners of shows such as American Idol. But don’t think this is one of those sappy numbers. Within the B.Slade written and produced track, Shanice manages to be a little aggressive while taking the blame for a bad relationship. “I’d rather be ugly than stand here lonely and depressed / Waiting for you and your promises that you made and couldn’t keep,” she sings, before relaxing and delivering a diva line: “Let me compose myself / I got carried away.”

Shanice proves her vocals are forever strong, classically refined and angelically delivered with “Gotta Blame Me.” Fans expecting a return to the days of "Don't Wanna Love You" and "Saving Forever for You" might face a bit of a challenge in the sonics of "Gotta Blame Me," which even strays from such recent releases (if 2006 can be considered recent) as “Take Care of You.” But it is good to hear that Shanice is back on the scene and back in the game, and not relying on Auto-Tune to get attention. Instead she's focusing on showcasing her voice, the main reason why so many of us fell in love with her in the '90s.
