With five years having passed since her last release, 2010's New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, it's safe to say that it's about time for some new music from Erykah Badu. However, we realize that she's and artist and is sensitive about her ish, so we'll continue waiting for that new new. In the meantime, however, we'll enjoy nearly any new spin that we can get.
Enter producer/blender Duncan Gerow. Mr. Gerow has a habit of blending artists together for unexpected takes on classic material, and this time around he's set his sights on Erykah's 1997 debut single "On & On," pairing it with IAMNOBODI's instrumental for Coast Vega's "These Moments." The already laid-back Badu joint gets even more chill as a result. The cool, piano-led groove, which cruises along gingerly, perfectly compliments the jazzy timbre of Erykah's vocal here, adding a slightly different feel to the track. But what doesn't change is the organic feel of the song, in fact, this is making us think that Erykah and IAMNOBODI need to collaborate for real for real in the studio soon.
