You might not be familiar with Rico Love as a solo artist, but you're definitely familiar with his music. The rapper/singer/songwriter/producer has had a hand in some big hits from artists like Usher, Monica, Brandy and more more than a few other R&B notables, all marked with his signature ad-lib "Turn The Lights On." That also happens to be the name of the Rico's debut album, which a room full of tastemakers got to listen to in a private session with the artist himself.

It was definitely a special moment, as Rico gave those in attendance an earful, including some pretty candid thoughts about the state of mainstream R&B (in a phrase: he ain't here for it). But what was most evident was Rico's passion for the craft of music. As he played the album in its entirety, he sat with eyes closed as he seemed to be conducting the music that blasted through the speakers. The album itself had it's share of moments, with the highlights being the '80s pop leaning "Days Go By" and cautionary ballad "Run From Me."

As the evening drew to a close, Rico, tired from two days of whirlwind promotion of the just-released set, graciously granted photos and even expounded on some of his thoughts about music and artists' responsibilities. Though some might've gone into the session thinking they knew all there was to know about Rico, most left the room with a newfound respect for one of the most prolific men in music.
