While we await Netflix's release of What Happened, Miss Simone?, Lauryn Hill continues to drop her Nina Simone covers ahead of the July release of the accompanying soundtrack Nina Revisited: A Tribute To Nina Simone. Last week we swayed to her soulful rendition of "Feeling Good," and this week Ms. Hill gives us life with her cover of Nina's 1968 single "Ain't Got No, I Got Life." Lauryn switches things up a bit by renaming it "I've Got Life" and spitting a few bars on the track, reminiscent of her Fugees days. With samples of Nina's original sprinkled in the background, Lauryn quickly raps about the state of society and how life has changed. With heavy percussion, intense piano and horns, the song is a passion-filled track that sucks you in before it abruptly cuts off right before we get to the second verse.

So now that we've had two previews of Lauryn's six singles, we're hoping she gives us some more insight for her other Nina covers, "Ne Me Quitte Pas," "Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair," "Wild Is the Wind" and "African Mailman." What Happened, Miss Simone? will be unveiled on June 26th, and the Robert Glasper-produced Nina Revisited: A Tribute To Nina Simone will debut on July 10th. Which Nina Simone cover are you dying to hear next from Lauryn? While you ponder that and we wait to see what she decides to surprise us with, you can listen to her single "I've Got Life" right here.
